SEO Consulting FAQ

An SEO consultant is an individual that provides actionable recommendations on how to improve your website’s performance on search engines like Google.

An experienced SEO consultant should be able to take into account the context of your industry and business, and use this to formulate a sustainable and effective SEO strategy.

An SEO consultant provides you with actionable recommendations and advice on how to improve your organic visibility on search engines like Google.

You should hire an SEO consultant if you have in-house resource with the ability to implement the recommendations from your SEO consultant. If you do not have in-house resource, it’s wise to hire an agency to help you implement changes and fill the internal gaps within your team.

However, the problem with a lot of SEO agencies out there is that they will delegate juniors to do 70% of the work on your website, with the remaining 30% being checked by senior SEOs and/or managers.

As a freelance SEO consultant, I will utilise 100% of my knowledge to do 100% of the job. That way, you can be rest assured that the person who is providing you SEO services actually knows what they’re doing.

That’s not to say that this is the case with every single SEO agency in London, but if you’re looking for an experienced SEO freelancer to thread the needle for your website, then that’s exactly what I’m here to do.

My SEO consulting sessions are flexible in terms of how they’re delivered. Most sessions will occur online (Google Meet/Zoom/Skype), however, some clients prefer speaking on the phone.

Online sessions are ideal because I can physically see my clients and share my screen so it is easier for information to get digested.

One SEO consulting session lasts one hour.

The amount of SEO consultancy sessions you need depend on numerous factors, including the size of the website, how little or much work has already been done, and budget.

With some clients, I will dedicate a couple of hours per month to consult clients about their ongoing SEO strategy, as well as identifying what has been achieved and what the priorities are for the current and following months.

Other clients prefer me to implement the recommendations on their website, which is absolutely fine too. My SEO consultancy services are there for you to understand what needs to be done to improve your website’s rankings, and I can definitely help with implementing the aspects found within our SEO consulting calls.

The only guarantee is that I will utilise my experience to help you with your SEO strategy.

No search engine optimisation expert in the world would be able to guarantee you rankings because there are far too many variables involved.

I mean, you always could do that. The problem is that hiring an experienced SEO specialist full time will cost you a LOT of money (especially if it’s an SEO consultant in London).

The perks of hiring a freelance SEO consultant in London is that you won’t have to worry about spending £60,000+ a year, rather, you’ll be spending your money on the knowledge and value that is being delivered via the website SEO consultant.

The cost of an SEO consultant will vary person to person. In London, some SEO consultants will charge ~£50/hour, but you tend to see more experienced SEOs charging between £100-£200/hour.

There are also SEO consultants that will charge more than this, but the more experienced SEO you choose, the more efficient they usually are at providing you with the right advice.

I’ve seen many businesses get burnt because SEO is an unregulated field with low barriers to entry. However, SEO is a channel that works, so there could be various reasons why you haven’t seen results that are outside of simply the SEO provider you went with beforehand.

A good SEO consultant will provide you with the right advice that is tailored to your website and niche, and provided you can action their recommendations, you should be able to see improvements.

The SEO process is done differently by every person, however, there are fundamental elements which must be included in any SEO process.

Initially, an SEO audit will be conducted to identify the strengths and weaknesses of your website. This can be from a technical, on-page, or off-page basis.

After the audit is conducted, the most critical findings will be addressed first, to ensure that your website is ready for sustained traffic and improved rankings.

The process from here differs depending on the website, which is why it’s important to understand that the SEO process is never 100% linear, in the sense that different priorities can take place at different times.

SEO is important because businesses cannot afford to be sustainably competitive via non-organic means. In a saturated digital world, every online business needs an SEO consultant to remain competitive in their niche. Without SEO, your business won’t attract customers who are searching for your products/services online – rather they’ll buy from your competitors.

No, SEO is not dead. Surprisingly, this question still gets asked a lot. As long as you still see organic results getting the most clicks from a search engine results page, SEO is well and truly alive.

I honestly don’t see SEO being dead for a long, long time – especially due to how businesses are increasingly becoming more aware of it, as well as wanting to get ahead of their competition online.

We even saw SEO continuing to be implemented during the pandemic, which further emphasises that SEO is here to stay.

SEO is a long-term strategy that aims to sustain a powerful digital presence. Search engines are very complicated and it can take a while for them to understand your content and consider it trustworthy of appearing for certain keywords.

That being said, in my experience, if actions and changes on the site are being made, you can expect tangible shifts in visibility between 6-12 months – this does depend on your industry, level of competitiveness, and resources.

As there are so many different SEO activities, some might thread the needle faster than others. Essentially, my job is to future-proof websites so that they can maintain the rankings that they achieve, no matter what kind of algorithm updates take place.

If you’re looking for SEO training so that you can implement SEO yourself, schedule a call with me to find out how I can help assist your learning.

Backlinks are signals to Google that reaffirm relevancy. Depending on the industry and keywords you are targeting, you may need many or few backlinks.

The most important factors surrounding backlinks are the relevancy, traffic, and strength of the domain.

The difference between white hat SEO and black hat SEO is generally related to the ethical and legal strategies employed to attempt to rank higher on search engines. However, the ancient debate between white hat and black hat SEO has still not been decided.

White hat SEO tactics are typically organic methods aimed at improving a website’s content, and subsequently obtaining more traffic and leads.

Black hat SEO techniques often involve unorthodox tactics to get results quickly, however, they are easily identifiable if done incorrectly.

The important thing to note is that both white hat and black hat methods can get you results, but it’s about knowing exactly how to benefit the end user and rank your website higher to complement your answers to a given search query.

YouTube SEO works differently than traditional SEO. On YouTube, the key components of video optimisations come from the meta data, which are your video titles, descriptions, tags, and other texts that can be found through subtitles and closed-captions (CC).

There are various metrics that YouTube seem to value when it comes to ranking YouTube videos, and the primary ones are the video titles, watch-time, and click-through rates.

In essence, YouTube wants to display the most relevant video for a search query, therefore, it uses various metrics to calculate the likelihood of a video being the most relevant for that particular query.

It can be a pretty exhaustive process to optimise an entire YouTube channel, but as a YouTuber since 2008, I can help you out based on what I’ve learned over the years.
